 It was the sad  day in  his life. The  alphatetical list of names  was posted  of those who'd made the varsity team.. He went thro the list once, twice and more ...disappointment , his name was not there.Staring at the list, it was as if maybe he could will his name to appear...but it didn't. He suffered through the day...then went home, shut his door so no one could see or hear. And then he cried. He was a sophomore and hardly any sophomores made the varsity squad. He had made the junior varsity team, still an accomplishment, yet this was still the sharpest disappointment of his life. 

After he was dropped out of the list , he disciplined himself. He woke up early to shoot, and stayed late in the evening to practice. He volunteered to do anything he could to help the varsity team. This man went on to become one of the most celebrated athletes and most revered celebrities of the twentieth century--Michael Jordan.

 That moment--getting cut from the varsity squad was a critical turning point in Michael's life. He could have quit or just remained status quo. But he didn't. He figured out a strategy for rising above. The strategy that allowed him to learn how to always bring his "A" game to everything he does in life.
